A new flyover in Pune, India is helping traffic flow, easing congestion in the city Work commenced on the Bharatratna JRD Tata double deck flyover in mid-2010 and now that the structure is carrying traffic, the city’s previous chronic congestion problem has eased significantly.
A report from the World Bank shows that low- and middle-income countries could be up to 22% wealthier if road deaths were halved in their countries. The report, The High Toll of Traffic Injuries, was released in December 2017. It studied the effect of road traffic crashes in five countries that are part of the Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety Programme 2015–2019: China, India, the Philippines, Tanzania, and Thailand. An investigation is being carried out into the project to build a coastal road in linking Saint-Denis and La Possession in the French island of Réunion. This investigation is being carried out by a Paris court and is focussing on allegations of corruption in the awarding of contracts. The project is worth US$1.79 billion and is aimed at improving traffic links.
