The Ammann story began in 1869 when founder Jakob Ammann set up his first workshop in Madiswil in Switzerland and it wasn't long before his brother Ulrich refocused the business from traditional millwork into the road construction market. By 1908, Ammann had patented its own macadam machine, essentially a combination of an asphalt plant and a paver ... The rest, as they say, is history.

The same core values remain: Ammann is still a family business, it continues to innovate and it is constantly seeking new ways to expand through strategic partnerships and ambitious manufacturing investments. According to CEO Hans-Christian Schneider: "We are expanding through new localised products, new solutions, new sales offices, new dealer partners and - in some cases - acquisitions."

The special "Ammann 150" edition above features articles on what Ammann will be showcasing at bauma 2019, such as its new range of ARX Light Tandem Rollers, as well as pieces on the group's latest customer services offerings and its latest environmentally-friendly ABP 400 HRT (high recycling technology) Asphalt Mixing Plants.

There are also job site reports from Moscow, where Ammann is setting the pace in compaction efficiency, and from New Zealand, where the company has a set of plate compactors working on a very confined tunnelling project.
