China's Guizhou province has major plans for highway investment during the 2011-2015 time period. In all there are plans to develop some 2,993km of expressway. The plans will require an investment of US$82.8 billion.
China’s Guizhou Province is carrying out a major programme of road network expansion and development works. In all the plan calls for the construction of 97,000km of rural roads, which are being built in a bid to boost connectivity. Funding is being provided by the Bank of Guizhou and Bank of Guiyang in the shape of a series of loans.
Russia will spend some of its revenues from its oil industry on improving its road network. Some 350km of Federal Roads were built in Russia in 2011 and 230km of Federal Roads have been constructed in Russia so far during 2012. Spending on Russia’s Federal Roads was US$$12.7 billion during this year. The investment in Russia’s Federal Roads is expected to increase to $14.6 billion in 2013, and to $16.6 billion by 2015. Ethiopia is setting a target of 2020 to complete its road expansion programme. The plan has been to double the length of the country’s road network in the period from 2015 to 2020. At present Ethiopia has around 121,200km of roads, compared with around 100,000km of roads in 2015. But by 2020, the Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) aims to expand the network to 200,000km.
