Tunnel workers have now connected the two bores for the new highway linking Albania with Kosovo. The 5.6km tunnel forms part of the Rreshen-Kalimash highway, which has so far cost Albania in excess of €1 billion.
A new highway is being built in Laos, which will link the capital Vientiane with the city of Vangvieng. The route will stretch 113.5km and will form part of the Laos-China Highway Project. The work is costing US$1.3 billion and is being carried out by Yunnan Construction Engineering Group. The new highway will feature two lanes in either direction and will be constructed under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model. Plans are now being drawn up for a series of projects that will form part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Four road projects worth over US$3.32 billion have been added to the CPEC programme. The Chinese Government is now in agreement with the plans for the CPEC. One of the new roads being built will run from Naukundi, through Mashkel and to Panjgur. The road will join National highway N-40 with CPEC Route N-85, and the Zhob-Kuchlak route.
