San Miguel Corp (SMC) will build two tolled expressways in the Philippines, with the projects costing US$5.16 billion in total. The projects were awarded to SMC by the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB). Work is due to commence shortly.

The projects are for the Southern Access Link Expressway (SALEx) and the Northern Access Link Expressway (NALEx).

The former is an elevated route that comprises the Metro Manila Skyway and the Shoreline Expressway. The $2.615 billion SALEx forms part of the Greater Capital Region Integrated Expressways Network, which will help address Manila’s chronic congestion.

Meanwhile, the $2.545 billion NALEx also forms part of the Greater Capital Region Integrated Expressways Network. This route is intended to improve transport from the New Manila International Airport and Metro Manila as well as Tarlac City from Pampanga.

In addition, SMC says that the Skyway Stage 4 expressway project will now cost $962 million instead of the $780 million originally envisaged. The 32.7km route features three lanes in either direction and links Parañaque City, Taguig City, Taytay, Antipolo City, San Mateo and Quezon City, where it meets the SLEX.
