342 Topcon has written an upgrade to its 3D-MC machine control software, called v10.0 for 3D-MC and it is now available to download.

The software upgrade allows a whole new range of machines to be controlled via the same 3D-MC software as used for dozers, graders and excavators. These include wide concrete pavers, milling machines, trimmers and curb and gutter machines.

Version 10.0 also brings improvements to screen colours and fonts to enhance visibility in bright sunlight. The new version also enables grade transition marker on/off for different surfaces and quick selection of non-Topcon RTK base stations.

    January 6, 2017
Synthetic diamond division of DeBeers, Element Six, has developed the 3D Percussive Diamond Insert (PDI) that it claims will radically cut costs in the mining drill industry. The 3D PDI uses the firm’s polycrystalline diamond technology to optimise wear and impact resistance properties, while improving penetration rates for the drill bit. The firm claims that tests of the drill insert show up to 10 times the drill life of a conventional tungsten carbide insert., greatly reducing costly rig downtime for serv
