Preparatory work is commencing for the $3.5 billion bypass project around Peru’s capital, Lima. Clearance work along part of the route is underway following approval from the Municipality of Independencia. The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) has commenced the clearing up of the section in the vicinity of the Víctor Haya de la Torre area.

The new ring road around Lima will measure 35km in length. This will connect the 200 Millas Oval in Callao and Circunvalación Avenue in San Luis.

The project will be carried out by the Vial Lima-Callao consortium, which comprises Ferrovial, Sacyr and Acciona. Design work for one of the three sections of the ring road is being carried out by Ayesa Ingeniería (Ayesa). This stretch will have two tunnel sections, with three lanes in either direction.

The new ring road will connect 11 districts around the city, reducing congestion in the centre of Lima and cutting journey times for drivers.
