Nigeria’s Lagos state government has outsourced around a third of its street lighting under a deal with UK manufacturer Low Energy Designs.
The partnership deal will see LED replace up to 10,000 lights over 300km of state roads within the next year at a cost of US$7 million, Nigeria’s media reported. Products will be from Low Energy Design’s Phoenix Ultra and Norrsken ranges. The Nigerian government has completed a project costing US$796.71 million (NGN 126bn) to restore 32 roads covering a combined 2,000kms. The federal government will also upgrade nine railway stations across the country on public private partnerships (PPPs). Mike Onolememen, the Minister of Works in Nigeria, is reported by African media to have told the recent 2013 Ministerial Platform in Abuja, Nigeria that the extensive improvements meant that the country’s roads can no longer be described as “death traps”.
Leighton Holdings and DM Consunji have been chosen by Metro Pacific Investment to develop the Cavite-Laguna Expressway – Calax -- project in the Philippines.
Work on the US$757 million is set to start in July next year and run to July 2020.
Maintenance and operations on the 47km highway is under a 30-year contract running from 2020. The motorway will start at Cavitex and end at the SLEX-Mamplasan Interchange.
