Jammu and Kashmir will benefit from road development works worth $1.236 billion. The budget is being set by the Ministry for Road Transport and Highways.

A major project will be for a tunnel stretch on the 84km Mughal Road linking Poonch and Shapian. Construction of the tunnel will allow the road to remain open even in winter. At present it is often blocked by snow at Balfiaz or Peer ki Galli. The budget will fund a total of 19 projects to upgrade roads or build new tunnels.
