2394 Volvo Construction Equipment president Pat Olney has stressed the importance of the bauma show to the industry giant ahead of the 2013 event.

Speaking during the recent inauguration of Volvo CE’s new Americas HQ in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, he said: “Bauma is a major show in Europe and also attracts international visitors. We want to showcase not only the new products, which are too many to list, that we have on offer, but also [our] technologies, and we’ll be talking about Tier 4 Final. We’re quite pleased with our ability to provide a [Tier 4] solution.

“We also want to reinforce the strength of the total Group and our total offer. More and more it’s not so much about the first machine you sell, it’s about softer services you provide to support the customer through the life cycle of the product.”

Olney said that Volvo CE had made “massive” investments in renewing its product range. “There have been 115 products launched in a two-year period. There’s a lot to talk about when you undertake that kind of renewal.”

On whether bauma 2013 has added industry significance given the ongoing global economic crisis, which has hit construction equipment sales and rentals in Europe and on other continents, Olney said: “I think it’s always important whether you’re at the top of the cycle or at a softer point, it’s the opportunity to touch base with so many customers in a short period of time. Any time you can do that it’s a value add.”

Volvo CE’s new extractor for bituminous fumes will be exhibited at bauma 2013, where it has been shortlisted for an Innovation Award. The new Volvo P6870C ABG wheeled paver with Stage IIIB-certified engine and a new design will also be among the equipment on display at the Munich, Germany-based event.
