In much of Africa, the condition of the road networks leaves much to be desired. The IRF Geneva is coming together with the Tanzanian Ministry of Works, Transport and Communications, the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS), the Tanzanian Roads Fund Board, Tanzanian Road Association (TARA), the Tanzania Transportation Technology Transfer (TanT2) Centre, the Association of Southern Africa National Roads Agencies (ASANRA), and other local and international institutions in organising a Regional Seminar on Performance-Based Maintenance Contracts (PBMC) for Roads. Immediately after the seminar there will a workshop on the same topic.  

The regional seminar will be held from 11th - 13th July 2016, while the workshop will be held immediately after the seminar on 14-15th July, 2016.  Both the seminar and the workshop will be held at Naura Springs Hotel, in the beautiful city of Arusha in Tanzania.

The objective of the Regional Seminar is to raise awareness about the importance and benefits of performance-based contracts for roads, and facilitate the sharing of practitioners’ experiences and best practices.

The objective of the workshop is to provide practitioners responsible for managing and maintaining road networks with tools, examples and practical knowledge for successfully implementing performance-based maintenance contracts for the roads for which they are responsible.

The Seminar is targeted at Senior Officials and Chief Executives of Road Agencies/ Departments and Roads Fund, practitioners responsible for managing and maintaining road networks, contractors, consultants, road sector policy and decision-makers, development partners, road users, and other interested parties.

The Workshop is targeted at junior and middle level managers from government road agencies and private companies, researchers and academics, students, and other interested parties. Participants are expected to come from the Sub Saharan Africa Region.
