1201 IRF Geneva’s rich programme of global events for 2013 will conclude with a rare occasion for both members and non-members to engage directly with key officials driving policy development within the United Nations and its specialised agencies.

Under the banner ‘Bringing Policy & Practice Together’ this landmark summit will be hosted in the prestigious Geneva International Conference Centre on 11-12 December 2013.

The summit will particularly focus on exploring policy linkages with UN agencies, the European Commission and other major governmental and non-governmental organisations based in Geneva.

The centerpiece will be a high-level roundtable, bringing together senior international officials and thought-leaders, designed to enable delegates to get behind the scenes of key agencies so as to better understand the mechanisms influencing policy development in their respective spheres of interest. In keeping with the resolutely practical emphasis of the summit, the roundtable will offer a dynamic, interactive forum for strategic dialogue. This will involve a broad range of industry players at the forefront of the .investment, construction, engineering, planning, programming, maintenance and operational sectors, as well as prominent research institutes, universities, national government agencies and road associations.

The occasion will further offer an apt and targeted focus for working meetings of the IRF Geneva expert groups and committees addressing respectively road safety, road financing and economics, intelligent transport systems and the environment.

For those delegates wishing to stay on in Geneva, and perhaps take advantage of the seasonal atmosphere of the city or nearby ski slopes, a number of optional post-summit events are being organised. These mix business with pleasure and include guided tours of the UN Headquarters (Palais des Nations) and other leading Geneva-based organisations. A comprehensive spouse/partner programme taking in Geneva’s world famous sights and shopping add the finishing touches to what promises to be a very rewarding visit.
