IRF Geneva develops safety initiatives in India

IRF India, in association with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), will shortly launch two road safety initiatives - the First Aid Trauma Care Training, and Black Spot Removal Programme.

First Aid Trauma Care Training – IRF India will shortly launch the Indoor Simulation for Road Incident Training Environment (ISRITE) programme for drivers of heavy commercial vehicles. The objective of this training is to provide accident victims appropriate trauma care at the site of the accident itself, even before they are moved to a hospital.

Professor Dr V Gautam, an internationally acclaimed surgeon of Trauma and Emergency Care, will, together with personnel from the National Disaster Response Force and the Indian Army, form the team for delivering this programme. The target is to train 40,000 drivers of commercial vehicles and trainers by 31st March 2016.

Black Spot Removal Programme - IRF India has taken the lead to spearhead the Black Spot Removal Programme in Delhi, India. The Delhi Traffic Police has identified 10 key black spots on Delhi’s roads. These 10 black spots will form the first phase of the Black Spot Removal Programme.



IRF Geneva at PIARC World Road Congress in Korea

1201 IRF Geneva was represented by Kiran K Kapila (chairman, IRF Geneva) at the 25th PIARC World Road Congress in Seoul, Korea.

The technical theme of the Congress was “Roads and Mobility – Creating New Value from Transport”.

IRF participated in the Congress Exhibition as well as technical deliberations of the Congress. Professor P K Sikdar made a presentation on ‘Safety of Two-Wheeler Drivers - India Case Study’ in the Special Session 08 “Road Safety for Two-Wheelers”. Kiran K Kapila, chairman, IRF Geneva and Mr. Jean-Francois Corte, secretary general, PIARC held discussions for various possible collaboration and cooperation in the areas of green road developments and road safety in the global context. The two major professional world bodies agreed to work together for success of the 18th World Road Meeting (IRF) to be held at New Delhi, India in 2017.

IRF also announced the 18th World Road Meeting (WRM) to be held at New Delhi, India in November 2017, through banner and leaflets at the Exhibition. A video film was presented in the Closing Session of the 25th Congress to welcome the international community to join the 18th WRM at New Delhi.
