With 400 exhibitors already confirmedTier 4 Interim engines are said by CCE to have been fitted on 90% of its machines which, they claim, maintains the company’s position at the forefront of efficient, productive equipment design.
A round of CCE’s popular Rodeo operator skills competition is set to be among the highlights of the show, with drivers trying their hand on the firm’s latest mini excavators and T Series backhoe loaders. Equipment solutions will also make up an important part of the CCE stand, with experts available to discuss finance, spare parts, service and maintenance back-up, along with the new Case telematics system.
The Doosan DX520LC crawler excavator will form part of the static display together with the new DL550-3, described as the flagship model in the new Doosan range of large wheeled loaders. A further model in the range, the new DL450-3 model, will be in the Demonstration area.
Replacing the 456 at the top of the JCB wheeled loading shovel range, the new 457 model is equipped with a Stage IIIB (Tier 4 Interim) compliant engine and is said by the company to contain increased power and torque with reduced fuel consumption. Improved transmission options, upgraded axles and robust styling are said to combine with a revised interior to provide a faster, more productive machine.
All of JCB’s tracked excavators are said by the firm to be significantly enhanced with a new cab, improved styling and increased major efficiencies. JCB’s show line-up will include the new JS360, JS260 and JS220 models, all said to have received these upgrades.
According to JCB, fuel efficiency has improved by 11% on the JS220 and by 8% on the JS260 and JS360 thanks to in-built advanced hydraulic technology, with optimised pump settings, revised spool configuration, and the introduction of an updated electronic control system.

At the opposite end of the JCB excavator line-up, the 2.7tonne JCB 8026 CTS is said by the firm to combine compact design with increased digging capacity. The machine uses a dedicated boom and dipper arm which, according to JCB, offers greater digging and lifting performance than competitive models. Enhanced efficiency is said to allow the 8026 CTS to use the same engine family as the 8025 ZTS, with a similar torque output, but with a lower power rating, providing a 14% efficiency gain.
One of JCB’s latest new generation skid steer loader models, that use a radial lift version of the JCB Powerboom single-sided lift arm to maximise digging capability and reach, will also be exhibited at Hillhead 2012.
Said by JCB to be best models in class for fuel efficiency, the skid steer loaders’ 46% larger, tilting cab provides a full height side door for maximum operator safety. JCB also claims its skid steer loaders offer industry leading serviceability and 60% better visibility than competitors.

The display on the NH stand will include the 21tonne E215C crawler excavator. Said by NH to rely on Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology to meet Tier 4 interim emissions standards, the model delivers an extra 15hp and up to 10% fuel savings compared to the B Series. Also on show will be the 35tonne E385C featuring NH’s high-efficiency hydraulic system, which produces a powerful performance combined with exceptional fuel efficiency. Show attendees will also be able to see the E385C LC in action on NH’s demonstration plot.
The two C Series wheel loaders on the NH stand, the W190C and W270C, are said to share the powerful and fuel-efficient performance of NH SCR technology. According to NH, their heavy-duty axles allow the machines to cope with the most hostile environments and are ideal for working in applications such as waste and scrap handling or quarries. The W300C being put to work on the NH demonstration plot and the W270C on display feature the Flat Bottom Bucket, said to be bigger and offering better penetration in the pile and exceptional material retention. In gravel, aggregate and sand applications, a claimed additional 18% penetration force increases productivity.
Also on display at Hillhead 2012, the NH L225 skid steer loader features patented vertical lift Super Boom design said to deliver best-in-class forward dump height and reach. It is also said by NH to have the comfort of the widest cab in the industry, while ensuring twice the visibility of previous models.

Making their exhibition debuts are the EC250D and EC300D crawler excavators. The 30tonne EC300D features a three-piece ultra-high demolition rig with a reach of 21 metres and a 2½ tonne tool capacity.
Representing VCE’s wheeled loader range is a L220G with 13litre Volvo engine and Volvo designed and manufactured powertrain components. This machine has an operating weight of around 32tonnes depending on tyre and attachment options and features buckets ranging between 4.5m³ and 14m³. At the other end of the VCE loader range will be a L60G featuring a six-litre engine and fuel saving ‘Eco-pedal’.

It will be the latest ‘Safer By’ campaign run by the 430 company member trade association for the aggregates, asphalt, cement, concrete, dimension stone, lime, mortar and silica sand industries, aimed at assisting contractors in reducing work-related injuries.
‘Safer by Partnership’ will include a database, toolkit, focus groups and a new ‘Target Zero for Contractors’. The MPA, who will be on stand P42 at Hillhead 2012, says contractors are at disproportionate risk of occupational injury and are often employed to carry out the more hazardous jobs within the industry.

Elsewhere on the VCE stand will be representative models from the company’s range of utility equipment including compact excavators and the new DD25 2.5tonne double tandem asphalt roller. Road machinery is represented by what VCE says is its popular wheeled ABG6870 paver. Completing the VCE display will be various truck models including the firm’s Red Dot design award winning Volvo A40F articulated hauler together with Volvo Trucks models such as the FMX, introduced in the UK at Hillhead 2010, and the FH16 750hp.
Customer support offerings will also be on display including Volvo Finance, customer service agreements and CareTrack telematics.
VCE’s Eco Operator initiative, supported by two state-of-the art simulators, will be among the interactive attractions at this year’s Hillhead. Visitors to the VCE stand will be invited to take on the initiative’s challenge, with an ultimate prize winner being crowned on each of the show’s three days.
