IRF now accepting submissions for 2009 edition of Global Road Achievement Awards (GRAA).

2462 IRF has officially opened the 2009 GRAA Competition. Started in 2000, this worldwide programme honours and recognises road projects throughout the world that demonstrate excellence and innovation.

Since IRF began this annual competition, more than 70 projects from two dozen countries have been recognised for their contributions to the advancement of road development worldwide.

Winners of the 2009 GRAA Competition will be showcased at the IRF Annual Awards Banquet, held in Washington, DC. Last year, over 200 road professionals and government officials gathered for this annual event to celebrate the accomplishments and successes of the road industry.

Winning projects are also provided maximum global exposure through:

  • A Book of Winning Projects: Winning GRAA projects are highlighted in a special IRF book, which is distributed worldwide.
  • IRF's Website: Winning projects are published on IRF's website, where visitors can view slideshow presentations and read a summary of each project.
  • Media Coverage: Many road industry publications cover and feature IRF GRAA winning projects.

The competition is open to all organisations involved in the road industry. There is no limit to the number of entries an organisation may submit. Entries are open to projects that may have been recognised in other award programmes, provided they have not been recognised in an IRF GRAA competition during any previous year. n

This year, the IRF will be accepting award submissions in each of the following categories:

  • Research
  • Design
  • Innovative finance
  • Technology, equipment & manufacturing
  • Advocacy & lobbying
  • Environmental mitigation
  • Construction methodology
  • Maintenance management
  • Safety
  • Traffic management & transport systems
  • Programme management
  • Quality management

Applications must be received by IRF no later than 1 September, 2009.
