2462 IRF World Meetings have constituted important focal points for the sector ever since the first Meeting in 1952. Held on 10-14 November 2013 against a backdrop of unprecedented infrastructure expansion in Saudi Arabia, the 17th IRF World Meeting & Exhibition continued this proud tradition and set new standards for scale, scope and outreach.

Carefully assembled around a set of game-changing outputs for the industry, the World Meeting also embodied IRF’s irreplaceable role in promoting the development of better, safer and more sustainable roads by gathering expertise and best practices across regions of the world and transport disciplines.

“It is a source of great pride that Riyadh has hosted one of the most successful IRF World Meetings to date. The 17th World Meeting & Exhibition set a number of records, which include the number of abstracts received, the number of countries represented and the most sponsors and supporting organisations,” according to mayor of Riyadh and IRF chairman Eng.

Abdullah A. Al-Mogbel. “The resounding success of the World Meeting is further evidence that we need to preserve and amplify IRF’s flagship event, even in this era of seamless communications."

“Organising an event of this calibre has been an extraordinary experience” notes C. Patrick Sankey, IRF President & CEO. “We wanted it to contribute to setting a policy and research agenda to 2020 that builds on the sum of knowledge and shared aspirations of global industry stakeholders. We also wanted it to lead to productive discussions among the 92 countries present in Riyadh. And lastly, we wanted this international gathering of Minds to be an investment in the future."

Now available for consultation, the official World Meeting Highlights  provide an in-depth look at the main findings of each of the 11 thematic tracks  supporting the longer term vision for the industry in 2020. The 64-page publication also features a behind-the-scene look at other major components of the World Meeting, including the exhibition,  technical visits and social program.
“Knowledge transfer has always been a fundamental component of our mission since 1948” concludes IRF’s Sankey. "Today, more than ever, knowledge is being shared across borders, and IRF is at the core of this process."
