New link planned for Australia’s Victoria State

A major new project is being planned for Australia’s Victoria State. The 26km North East Link is intended to connect Melbourne’s Metropolitan Ring Road at Greensborough with the Eastern Freeway at Bulleen. If the project is to go ahead it is likely to cost in the region of US$11.23 billion (A$15.8 billion), making it the single largest transport infrastructure project in the history of Victoria State. Should the work be approved, construction work would commence in 2020, with completion then due in 2027.

A major new project is being planned for Australia’s Victoria State. The 26km North East Link is intended to connect Melbourne’s Metropolitan Ring Road at Greensborough with the Eastern Freeway at Bulleen. If the project is to go ahead it is likely to cost in the region of US$11.23 billion (A$15.8 billion), making it the single largest transport infrastructure project in the history of Victoria State. Should the work be approved, construction work would commence in 2020, with completion then due in 2027. Planned features include a dedicated busway, a tunnel section under Bulleen Road and two major interchanges, one of which would be underground.

    Plans are in hand in Canada to extend Highway 427 by 6.6km. The final decision over the project has yet to be made by the Ontario Government. The work is expected to cost in the region of C$500 million (US$491 million) to carry out. The work is required as the highway carries a heavy traffic volume and the extension will help reduce congestion in the surrounding area. The work should commence in 2017 once the necessary approvals have been given and the construction would then require an estimated 36 months.
  • Polish capital route project being planned

    Route reviews are being carried out for a key Polish project. Poland’s highways authority, GDDKiA, is analysing the four potential routes for the S10 road, which will connect with Warsaw’s outer ring road, itself still to be completed. The different routes have estimated costs ranging from €5.34 billion to €5.99 billion and all connect with the A1, though at different intersections. Financing for the work should be secured by 2020, with tendering expected in 2025 and construction due to commence in 2026.
