The Colombian Vice President, German Vargas Lleras, has announced that two proposals have been received to build the Santana-Mocoa-Neiva motorway.

This road has a budget of US$627.22 million is one of the nine initiatives the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) has included in the second wave of 4G motorway projects.

The two companies interested in carrying out the work are Concesionaria Vias del Desarrollo 4 and Infraestructura Vial para Colombia.

Concesionaria Vias del Desarrollo 4 consists of China Gezhouba Group Company (a 25% stake), Benton (25%), Pavimentar (12.5%), Solarte Nacional de Construcciones (12.5%) and Construcciones Rubao Sucursal Colombia (12.5%).

Infraestructura Vial para Colombia is made of Controladora de Operaciones de Infraestructura (35%), Cass Constructores (20%), Carlos Albertos Solarte Solarte (20%), Latinoamericana de Construcciones (10%), Estyma (10%) and ALCA Ingenieria (5%).

The 447km motorway will be the main route between Ecuador and southern Colombia into the centre of the country and then the Caribbean coast. It should reduce the Bogota-Quito journey time from 26 to 20 hours.

Among the works planned for the project are a second Neiva-Campo Alegre 22km road,
two 90m tunnels for the Mocoa-San Juan de Villalobos road and nearly 4km of bridges and viaducts.

The project will be awarded on June 9 2015 and is scheduled for completion within four years. According to ANI, 7,500 people will be employed on the construction works.
