Colombia: Bogota-Tunja road project completed

Work on the dual carriageway project between the cities of Bogota and Tunja in the Boyaca region is finished, said Colombia's vice president German Vargas Lleras. The 206km project, costing nearly US$367 million, included construction of a 6km dual carriageway.

    Spanish construction firm Sacyr is set to invest around US$1.5 billion in Colombian road concession projects. The country is regarded as an ideal recipient for foreign investment. Current Sacyr projects in Colombia include a bridge costing $40.11 million (COP 80 billion), as well as the $116.79 million (COP 233 billion) road scheme between Buenaventura-Loboguerrero. The country has embarked on a major road development programme, via serious and transparent processes, according to Sacyr.

    In the US work is now commencing on the key I-269 highway upgrade at Byhalia in the state of Mississippi. The new US$19.5 million section now under construction will complete the beltway around nearby Memphis, Tennessee.
