Two new Russian bridges being planned

Two major new bridge projects are being planned in Russia. One bridge will span the Volga River, the other will span the Yenisei River in Siberia.

Design work for the third bridge spanning the River Volga near to Saratov will commence in 2020. The plans call for this new road bridge to be constructed close to the existing railway bridge.

Meanwhile in Siberia’s Krasnoyarsk Region, a bridge measuring over 2km is being planned. This project is expected to cost US$138 million and also involves building a new roundabout to connect the bridge road with existing roads.

    A new programme of works will see huge jump in the number of road bridges in Russia’s capital, Moscow. At present there are just 35 main road bridges in Moscow, but the building plans will see a further 24 being built, bringing the total to 59. The plan is costing over US$450 million. A number of new bridges will be built to span the Moscow River. Bridges will also be built to span the Yauza River and Skhodnya River.   • Bangladesh, China seal $705 million deal for Karnaphuli River tunnel

    Bangladesh has formally signed a US$705 million deal with China Communication Construction to build a multi-lane road tunnel underneath the Karnaphuli River in Chittagong. Road Transport and Bridges secretary Man Siddique along with the government’s Road Transport and Bridges minister Obaidul Quader signed the contract with Liu Qitao, chairman of China Communication Construction. The signing took place in Beijing, according to a report in the Bangladesh newspaper The Independent.
