A new bridge in Ecuador will improve transport connections in the country. The opening of this new structure is of note as it is the longest bridge in Ecuador. The Bahia de Caraquez-San Vicente road bridge cost some US$102 million to construct.

Mexico is continuing with its plans for a series of major transportation projects aimed at boosting connectivity. The country’s Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (SCT) says that work is underway on 110 of the country’s 128 planned bridge projects. Construction of the remaining 18 bridges is commencing in due course. In Bolivia work is in hand on a new road that will improve connections from the country to Argentina and Peru. The road will link El Desaguadero, in La Paz, and Bermejo y Villazon, in Tarija. The 1,459km road is expected to cost around US$635 million and is due for completion by July 2014. So far 581km of the road has been completed.
A new bridge link will be constructed between Botswana and Zambia in Southern Africa. Some of the funding for the bridge is being provided in the form of a US$113 million loan from the Japanese Government. The Kazungula bridge project is expected to cost $260 million in all.
