New Indonesian toll road will be PPP

In Indonesia plans are well in hand for the development of the new Pekanbaru-Dumai toll road project. The 134km road will cost US$896 million to construct and will be carried out under the PPP model. Agreements have been sealed to start work on freeing the land needed for the project. The land compensation process is due for completion by December 2011.

    Discussions are being held in Myanmar with regard to the country’s Elevated Expressway Project. The Myanmar Government has been in talks with the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The project is expected to cost US$400 million, with work due to commence in 2019 and likely to require 24-36 months to complete. Safety risks from earthquakes, tsunami, high tides and extreme weather conditions make the project impractical. A US$75.46 million feasibility study was carried out for the project. This pointed out that the bridge is at a high risk from earthquakes and tsunamis due to its vicinity to the Anak Krakatoa volcano.

The public-private partnership project for Segment 3A of the route will be carried out by NTE Mobility Partners Segments 3 LLC (NTEMP3). The rebuilding of the I-35W road close to Fort Worth will help reduce traffic congestion on the route at peak periods.
