Ukraine sets ambitious road target

The Ukrainian Government says that the country will see US$26.23 billion of road and highway construction work carried out in the 2013-2018 period. This construction plan forms part of the country’s five-year state economic programme. Financing will come from an array of sources. Funds for the projects will come from private investors, credit facilities, overseas financial organisations and the national budget.

With this plan in mind, the government has set a budget of US$102 million to invest in its transport system during 2015. The plans include work to the eastern bypass around capital, Saransk.     Uruguay’s Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MOTP) has recently presented proposals to the private sector on the modernisation and maintenance of four major national roads (26, 14, 55 and 20) over a ten-year period. A US$550 million government fund, known as Fondo Vial, will pay for the works, which will make Uruguay a real communications hub in the region, especially in light of a future deep water port. The national budget will remain unaffected.
