Sydney Gateway project on track

Plans are in hand for the construction of the Sydney Gateway project, which will now see an improved connection to the city’s airport. The highway at St Peters will now be extended to Sydney Airport. The work will cost US$1.85 billion (A$2.6 billion) and will be funded jointly by the Australian Government and Sydney Airport. The work should be completed by 2023. The route will not be tolled.

The new route will provide an improved road connection for Yangon International Airport to the city’s industrial area, Yangon Jetty and the Thilawa Special Economic Zone. It will also link with the Yangon-Mandalay highway and construction is expected to commence in 2019.

This 47km route will run along the coast to the south of capital Manila, with its north eastern end lying close to the city’s international airport. The route connects Cavitex in Cavite's Kawit with the SLEx-Mamplasan Interchange in Laguna's Biñan. The project will improve connections to the airport as well as from Manila to the southern end of Luzon.
