Construction work is starting in the Philippines for the new link that will connect the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) and the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx). The project is costing nearly US$430 million, with the link being built by local toll road firm NLEX Corp. The new link road will be 8km long, running from the end of Harbor Link in Caloocan City to the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in Santa Mesa of Manila. The road link will be elevated and the work is due for completion in 2021.
Vietnam’s Ministry of Transport is prioritising the construction of the North-South expressway project. It is seeking the approval of the Vietnamese Government approval to speed up the development of a 713km stretch of the expressway. This particular section of the expressway is phase one of the project and has an estimated construction cost of US$ 5.73 billion. Slovakia said it will tender this year for the 14km R2 expressway linking Roznava and Jablonov nad Turnov with completion likely in 2024.
Slovakia's transport minister Arpad Ersek said construction could start by Q3 2019.
R2 is a 360km route that will run from Kosice in the east across the country to Trenčín, near the Czech border in the west. It will pass through Bánovce nad Bebravou, Prievidza and Lučenec. Roznava is an economic and tourist centre around 70km from Kosice.
Official approval has been given for a major expressway project in Cambodia. The project is expected to cost US$1.87 billion and will be carried out under the build-operate-transfer model. The final approval was given by the Cambodian Government for the expressway, which will connect capital Phnom Penh with Preah Sihanouk Province.
