Studies for the proposed Brussels Ring Road will receive EU support. Co-financing worth some €1 million from the EU’s TEN-T Programme will help pay for a study to optimise the Brussels Ring Road and improve its traffic flow and safety. The Belgian authorities will pay the remaining €1 million for the study. The main aim of this study is to try and separate local and transit traffic, without extending the existing road infrastructure.
Construction work on four expressways is commencing in China’s Hunan Province. The roads will have a total length of 179km and the work involves building new stretches, as well as widening and improving existing sections. The cost of this road construction work has been estimated at some US$3.69 billion. The four projects are for the reconstruction of a 50.7km stretch of the Lianhuachong-Zhuzhou expressway, work to the 83.5km Wugang-Jingzhou expressway, improvements to the 86.4km Nanxian-Yiyang expressway a
International interest is strong in Vietnam’s landmark North-South Expressway project. French, Japanese and South Korean firms are amongst those showing an interest in building sections of the 2,100km route. Vietnamese contractors are also showing interest in the project and the tender process for the latest stretches will remain open until 9th July.
The Vietnamese Government is giving its approval for the construction of a new tolled expressway connecting Phan Thiet with Dau Giay. The work will be carried out under the PPP model. Building the expressway will improve transport connections to the coastal area around Phan Thiet. Dau Giay is located just to the east of Ho Chi Minh City, so the new link will provide an important transport connection that will boost the economy for Phan Thiet.
