One of Morocco’s most dangerous roads could get tunnels in a bid to improve its safety. A feasibility study on the potential installation of tunnels on the RN9 mountain-passing route will begin in December 2014.
Preliminary data from France over the number of fatalities on the road network reveal safety improvements during 2012. The numbers killed dropped by 7-8%, although the final figures for December are not yet available. The preliminary figures suggest that around 3,600-3,700 were killed on French roads in 2012, compared with 3,970 in 2011. The radical proposals have been drawn up as council bosses look to find a long-term solution for the Thickthorn roundabout, near Norwich, reportedly described by one leading figure as “one of the most important roundabouts in the county [Norfolk]”.
