One of Morocco’s most dangerous roads could get tunnels in a bid to improve its safety. A feasibility study on the potential installation of tunnels on the RN9 mountain-passing route will begin in December 2014.
As part of a recent rail investment package, the Department for Transport has ring-fenced a US$100 million fund for safety improvements to level crossings between 2014 and 2019, and Optex has announced that its Redscan laser detector has been specified as part of a new solution to automate signalling and detect whether or not a level crossing is clear from vehicles and pedestrians before allowing a train to pass through.
Ringway has won the contract to build a dual carriageway bypass to ease congestion and improve motorist safety on a notorious section of the A57 in Rotherham, northern England. The US$21.86million (£14mn) A57 Todwick Bypass scheme, contracted out by Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, will create a new near 1.6km dual carriageway running from junction 31 of the M1 to the A57’s junction with the B6463.
Transport for London (TfL) has been granted a Development Consent Order (DCO) by the Department for Transport (DfT) for the Silvertown Tunnel. This new twin-bore road tunnel will run under the River Thames in East London.
