Electric road built in Sweden

An innovative electric road concept has been developed in Sweden by researchers at Lund University.. The new system features a conductive rail on the road surface, which is inactive until an EV passes over the top. The EV can be charged with up to 160kW by the rail, with the system offering an efficiency claimed to be as high as 97%. The system could allow EVs to feature smaller, lower cost batteries as range extension would be delivered by the charging system instead.

Manufacturers are making advances in stabiliser/reclaimers and milling machines - Mike Woof reports. The market for milling equipment is a competitive one, with a range of companies from around the globe now offering machines for this segment: BOMAG, Caterpillar, Dynapac, Roadtec, Volvo CE and Wirtgen. In recent years a number of Chinese firms have entered this segment and determining the number of machines these companies manufacture is difficult, although most of their units are sold in China. But interna

Proven polyester bridge deck surfacing technology is now being used more widely – Mike Woof writes. The benefits of using polymer concrete bridge deck overlays are well known and this technology is becoming widely used in the US. The system can improve protection for bridge surfaces and help extend the life of a bridge deck, as well as increasing skid resistance. In the last 25 years the use of these overlays has increased significantly in the US. These perform best when installed on bridge decks that are i
