906 Chile's Ministry of Public Works has revealed that work on the Vespucio Oriente highway will now cost US$2 billion. The complexity of the project is the cause for the cost increase. The tender process for the project should commence by mid-2012. The project will be for a 13km length and much of it will run underground, with the route crossing seven districts. Work is expected to begin in 2014.

Argentina is planning two new highway projects to widen and improve key sections of Route 40 and Route 33. A US$291 million project will upgrade a stretch of the existing Route 40 to highway status. The two year project will see the widening of the road between Mendoza and San Juan and the construction work will start in the third quarter of 2017. Work will commence on the Nairobi-Mombasa expressway in mid-2018. The new highway will help develop Kenya’s economy by providing an improved highway connection between the country’s capital and its premier port. The 473km-long highway connection will be built by Bechtel and has a projected cost of US$3 billion. Bechtel is sourcing the necessary financing and will also have the concession to operate the highway link. Journey times should be halved along the route with the opening of the highway.
