Work is well underway on a major road project in Argentina. Construction of National Road 19 is on schedule, with 30% of the necessary work having been carried out so far. The project is costing US$164.8 million and the highway will stretch 155km between San Francisco and Rio Primero.

    Work to improve a major highway connection in Paraguay has been delayed, but will be completed shortly. A consortium, Rutas del Este, is carrying out the work to improve the stretch of Ruta 2 from San Lorenzo to Ypacaraí. The consortium is headed by contractor Sacyr and has been carrying out the work for the PPP deal to upgrade the Ruta 2 and Ruta 7 highways between Ypacarai and Pastoreo.

    Concern has been expressed in Colombia at potential traffic congestion around the new Tunel de Oriente in Antioquia. Existing roads in Baltimore in Medellin and Sajonia in Rionegro are thought to face potential traffic issues once the tunnel opens, as they have not yet been upgraded.
