Sokkia’s sophisticated survey system

Sokkia is now adding two new editions to its CX total station series, both featuring enhanced reflectorless operation. The new CX-50 is designed to provide an entry-level option with a fast and powerful EDM. The CX-100LN is built to offer a long-range reflectorless EDM. The CX-50 is said to be easy to use and highly accurate, offering reflectorless electronic distance measurement (EDM) of up to 350m, and EDM of 4,000m with the use of a prism. 1090 Sokkia is now adding two new editions to its CX total station series, both featuring enhanced reflectorless operation.

The firm says that in addition, the CX-100LN features a 2,000m non-prism pulse EDM that can measure further than non-prism instruments in its class. According to Sokkia, the new algorithm reduces the noise associated with non-prism measurements providing an accurate result to most surfaces over longer distances. This is said to be true for darker surfaces and wet surfaces where other non-prism instruments would fail.

The CX-50 offers 2 and 5 arc second accuracies, a battery life of up to 15 hours, dual axis compensation, a waterproof design, and a laser pointer. The CX-100LN provides 2 and 5 arc second accuracies, a 36-hour battery life, dual axis compensation, a laser pointer, and Bluetooth connectivity.

    March 21, 2016
Highways need not be a blight on the countryside that many people, urban planners included, believe they will always be. By Bram Miller, director, and Martin Broderick, environmental consultant, at Ramboll Environ While the world’s highway networks bring undoubted economic and social benefits, they are generally perceived to lead to negative environmental impacts. Some may consider this an unfair reputation, but it is difficult to argue that in the majority of cases both the construction and operation of

Increasing utilisation of infrastructure follows on from those assets being in better condition. Clearly by tracking infrastructure condition closely, huge gains can be made in addressing technical issues before they become more serious and more costly, as well as minimising disruption. In UK city Birmingham, high resolution aerial photography from Bluesky is helping the city council under
