A partnership of American road and transport-minded bodies and individuals has delivered an open letter to Congress urging the approval of the multi-year surface transport investment bill. A methane-powered bus has set a speed record of nearly 124km/h at a test track in the UK. The bus, from the southern city of Reading, was converted to run on compressed methane from cow manure and was painted black and white like a Friesian cow. Over the two days, the Belgian company gently raised a 1,550tonne steel pylon that will form the backbone of the New Wear Crossing – no official name yet – across the River Wear.
General work on the two-span cable-stay bridge started on the bridge in May 2015. The structure will be supported by the single double pylon and will have four vehicle lanes, as well as dedicated cycle and pedestrian routes.
