A new highway in China’s Guangdong Province is being planned, with construction due to commence in 2019. The 54km link will improve transport for Jiangmen City and is expected to open to traffic in 2022. Called the Yinzhouhu Highway, the project is expected to cost US$1.4 billion to construct. The high expense of the project for its length is due to the undulating terrain, with the need for four tunnel stretches as well as 25 bridges.

Mexico’s Guadalajara bypass is now open to traffic. The 111km route is in Jalisco State and cost close to US$451 million to construct. The highway is Mexico’s second most important bypass, after the bypass around capital Mexico City. Jalisco State has benefited from a series of major transport infrastructure projects worth a total of $2.82 billion. Bolivia’s US$554 million Occidente road project is running behind schedule and is now expected to be complete in 2020. Construction of one section, from Caracollo-Confital, is underway with close to 60% of the work having been complete. However two of the three sections of the route have not yet been put to tender. Contractor STRABAG has won deals to construct two more sections of the S7 route in Poland for some €198 million. The firm will build a total of 36km of the S7 route to the north of capital Warsaw. The construction work for the four lane route is expected to take 34 months to complete. One stretch runs from Strzegowo to Pieńki and is 22km long, the other stretch is 14km long and runs from Pieńki to Płońsk. Work on the first stretch of the US$55.6 million bypass around Rabat is now complete. The 6km stretch of the N°2 Rabat-Salé route forms part of a wider plan to develop Rabat. The final stretch linking El Oulja with the N°6 national road should be complete in the next few months. The new bypass is intended to reduce the chronic congestion that can occur in the area at peak periods, resulting in far longer travel times for drivers. Plans are being drawn up in Argentina for a new bridge that will connect Parana and Santa Fe. The project will be handled under the PPP model and involves the construction of a bridge and highway connection that is expected to cost US$650 million. The work will be carried out in three phases. South Korean contractor Hyundai has expressed strong interest in the project.
