Slovakia tunnel sections underway but some delays

The route for new tunnel links for Slovakia’s D1 highway has been agreed. New tunnels now look set to be built on the 13.5km stretch between Turany and Hubova section of the D1 highway. This plan calls for the construction of the Korbelka and Havran tunnels at an estimated cost of €900 million. Building these two links would bypass the Lower Fatra mountain range, with the Korbelka Tunnel measuring 5.9km and the Havran Tunnel measuring 2.9km long. Ecuador road expansion contract tender

The tender process is opening shortly for a major road widening project in Ecuador. The contract is thought to be worth in the region of US$1 billion. The work will involve widening the E-25 route to four lanes along a 170km stretch. Also include will be the construction of six access roads, five bridges and 36 crossings for pedestrians. Also known as the Santo Domingo-Quevedo-Babahoyo-Jujan road, the project will be carried out as public-private partnership (PPP).
Malaysia bridge feasibility study to show project viability

The feasibility study for a key bridge link in Malaysia will reveal the viability of the project. The study for the Labuan-Menumbok Bridge Link in Malaysia is thought to have a contract value of around US$3.6 million. A number of consultancies have tendered for the study deal.
India road upgrade deal awarded

A new highway upgrade project has been awarded in India’s Madhya Pradesh. The US$115 million project will see the upgrade of a 30km stretch of the NH-7 route. The project was awarded by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The contract will be handled by Dilip Buildcon (DBL).
Discussions for Poland to Slovakia highway link

The Ministries of Transport for Poland and Slovakia have held discussions regarding the connection of the S1 and A1 highway links. The S1 road will run from the border with Slovakia to meet with the A1 highway at Pyrzowice in Poland. This road link should be ready for traffic in 2022. Also ready for traffic in 2022 should be Slovakia’s D3 highway.
Croatia road and bridge projects

China Road and Bridges Corporation (CRBC) is the main contractor for Croatia’s Peljeski road and bridge construction project. A number of local firms are in discussions regarding sub-contracts for the project. The link will cost around €264 million to construct. The Croatian firm Brodosplit is in discussions to supply the 70,000tonnes of steel required for the bridge.

Michael Baker International has been awarded a US$6.1 million contract by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). The contract is for Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) services for the Lowest Stemmons Freeway project. Fayat Group wins Intermat innovation award for asphalt plant

The Fayat Group has won an Intermat innovation award for its new TRX100 asphalt plant. The new design from the firm was the winner of Equipment & Machinery Award in the Roads, Minerals and Foundations category, which was awarded on 18th January 2018. The TRX100 is a new mobile continuous asphalt plant able to handle up to 100% recycled material in its feed supply. Designed for fast relocation, the machine features an innovative low temperature production process.
Nepal tunnel link due for construction

Construction work will commence soon on Nepal’s Naubise-Nagdhunga road tunnel project. The final design for the 2.6km link has yet to be approved. Funding for the project is being provided by a loan from the Japanese Government. The project is being built by the contractor Nippon Koei and is expected to cost US$176.1 million.
