UK contractor Ringway provides protection for autonomous vehicles

Ringway, a Eurovia company in the UK, has taken part in a self-driving vehicle test on public roads in the English city of Milton Keynes. For the three-day test, two Ringway trucks provided a rolling roadblock behind an autonomous Jaguar Land Rover passenger vehicle. The trucks were there to ensure other highways users were safe and not inconvenienced by the tests, according to Ringway. Ringway also supplied two supervisors and two traffic management vehicles.
Mexico’s Puebla State has road plan under development

Mexico’s Puebla State has a road infrastructure plan under development. In all the work is expected to cost US$612.6 million, with the schedule seeing construction carried out from 2018-2019. The planned works include the La Galarza-Amatitlanes bypass, which will connect Puebla and Morelos. and a distributor road at Periferico Ecologico ring road. Guatemala highway contract awarded

SBI International Holdings will carry out US$93 million of road construction works in Guatemala. The works will be for the upgrading of four sections of road in Alta Verapaz and Quiche that measure just over 144km. The deal was awarded by Guatemala’s Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing (CIV). SBI International Holdings is a subsidiary of Israeli firm Solel Boneh International. Tanzania projects funding from Kuwait

Funding has been secured from Kuwait for a series of major infrastructure projects in Tanzania. One of the main projects will be for a series of road upgrades in the city of Dodoma. Another project will be for improvements to the 257km road connecting Morogoro with Dodoma. The US$207.3 million loan has been made available to the Tanzanian Government via the Arab Economic Development Fund. Kuwait has provided financing for earlier infrastructure projects in Tanzania also.
Cambodia-Thailand connection construction commences

Construction is now underway for the project to build Cambodia's National Road No 5. Costing in the order of US$185 million, the project also includes building two city bypasses. Much of the funding for the project is being supplied in the shape of a loan from the Japanese Government. This 85km route is of key importance to Cambodia as it will provide a link from the capital, Phnom Penh, to the border with neighbouring Thailand. Kenya’s key construction contract commencing

Work will commence on the Nairobi-Mombasa expressway in mid-2018. The new highway will help develop Kenya’s economy by providing an improved highway connection between the country’s capital and its premier port. The 473km-long highway connection will be built by Bechtel and has a projected cost of US$3 billion. Bechtel is sourcing the necessary financing and will also have the concession to operate the highway link. Journey times should be halved along the route with the opening of the highway.
New Russian highway PPP construction deal

A huge highway project is intended to boost connectivity between Russia’s Stavropol Region and Krasnodar Region. The US$3.5 billion project is intended to be carried out under the PPP model and will require private financing. The highway will connect Mineralye Vody with Sochi but further details about the plans have yet to be revealed.
South Carolina highway construction contract for Lane

Upgrading work for the I-85 route in South Carolina will be carried out by Lane Construction. The project is worth US$181 million and will see an extra lane being added in either direction to the stretch of the I-85 highway that runs through Cherokee County. A Chinese firm has won the contract to supply the tunnel boring machine (TBM) for a major road tunnelling project in Bangladesh. The Chinese manufacturer, Tianhe Mechanical Equipment Manufacturing (Tianhe Mechanical), is building the TBM to the specific design requirements of the client.
