Turbocharger package cuts emissions and boosts fuel efficiency
Cummins’ latest turbocharger innovation has been extended to the 500-series, with an electronically wastegated turbocharger that delivers efficiency gains of up to 8% as a result of changes to the exhaust turbine. By more closely matching turbine wheels to the compressor, greater fuel efficiency is achieveable, said the firm. Revised turbocharger means better turbine efficiency
196 Cummins’ latest turbocharger innovation has been extended to the 500-series, with an electronically wastegated turbocharger that delivers efficiency gains of up to 8% as a result of changes to the exhaust turbine. By more closely matching turbine wheels to the compressor, greater fuel efficiency is achieveable, said the firm. The 500-series turbocharger is also said to offer improved resistance to oil leakage by 200% over the current industry standard.
Oerlikon has launched a new hybrid electric drivetrain for wheeled loaders that is predicted to reduce fuel consumption by up to 30%. The hybrid package is a complete electric driveline system. It starts with engine partner Cummins supplying its 12litre QSG engine that meets Tier 4 Final emissions regulations.

Called the QSF2.8, the new four-cylinder platform is the smallest engine from Cummins to use full-authority electronic controls for high-pressure common rail injection. The 2.8litre engine is available in naturally aspirated (37kW) and turbocharged (55kW) packages, and has been developed as a global engine platform.

Doosan Bobcat EMEA has launched the DX160LC-5 HT and DX180LC-5 HT Stage IV compliant high track crawler excavators.
They complement the company’s standard configuration DX140LC-5 14tonne and DX180LC-5 18tonne mid-range excavators. Doosan says that the DX160LC-5 HT excavator combines the upper structure from the DX140LC-5 14tonne model with an 18tonne class high track undercarriage system, increasing the ground clearance from 410mm in the DX140LC-5 to 615 mm.
