E-Z Drill highlights 210B-2 on-grade drills at ConExpo 2014

E-Z Drill’s 210B-2 on-grade drills are being showcased at ConExpo 2014. 2976 E-Z Drill’s 210B-2 on-grade drills are being showcased at Conexpo 2014. Part of the 210B Series of on-grade concrete drills and like the 210B model, the 210B-2 is a pneumatic and easy-to-position unit that drills to a standard 45.72cm depth. Both the 210B and 210B-2 drills feature a compact frame, allowing each to operate within a confined area. The units have been specifically designed for straight-line drilling on a level subgrade, and are said to be ideal for airport work, lane additions and large patchwork jobs.

The 210B-2 drills within 15.24cm of a corner and is said by E-Z Drill to provide an inexpensive option for a two-gang system. An optional vertical conversion kit enhances the series’ versatility, allowing each unit to switch from a horizontal drill to a vertical drill within 20 minutes.

As with the complete line of E-Z Drill products, the on-grade drills are said to offer numerous features to increase production and help prevent downtime. Quick-release bit guides correspond with any style of bit for a fast, simple exchange, while vertical height adjustment levels are said by E-Z Drill to enable each unit to drill on centre, whether the slab is 15.24cm or 60.96cm thick. E-Z Drill’s patented roller bearing feed system is said to eliminate friction while drilling, increasing speed and productivity. Drill carriages can easily be replaced, as needed, with basic tools, and quick coupler air fittings further simplify maintenance. Regulators on the 210B-2 allow the operator to set the optimum drilling speed for each individual drill.

Both the 210B-2 and 210B on-grade models feature components to protect the machine, as well as the operator. Carriage locks secure the drill and bit in place when the air supply is off or disconnected, and auto-lock couplers automatically secure the air supply hose onto the drill coupling so that the connection does not need to be manually pinned. Individual oilers help the drill motor last longer by lubricating each drill from separate reservoirs.

On-grade models operate on the subgrade, allowing work to continue without obstructing the traffic lane. Another advantage offered by on-grade units is that they are lighter to load and unload than slab-rider models. In addition to the 210B-2 and 210B, the E-Z Drill on-grade line includes the smaller 65B, 85B and 110B models.

The European Union Road Federation (ERF) has put out an “urgent” call for “EU Member States to prioritise road maintenance” as neglected surfaces continue to deteriorate and the potholes grow larger and larger. ERF wants the EU to “put alternative financing mechanisms into place” as soon as possible, to tackle what it sees as a growing road safety crisis across the region. At its first ERF biennial Symposium on Road Infrastructure Challenges in June, more than 100 stakeholders heard the ERF demand the “ope
