The Philippines federal government has earmarked US$138 million for repairing provincial roads in 73 of the country’s 81 provinces. The Department of Budget and Management allocated the money under the KALSADA programme that devolves responsibility for road repair and maintain of provincial roads, alongside the planning of other local infrastructure, to local governments. Bolivian President Evo Morales has said the government will spend US$1.9 billion on national highways in 2016. Nearly $12 million will be spent in expanding the Rio Seco-San Roque road in El Alto from one to 10 lanes. Road crashes in Brunei caused more deaths in 2015 compared with 2014. The data from Brunei's Fire and Rescue Department shows that from January to November 2015, there were 15 road deaths compared with 10 fatalities from road crashes in 2014. In the period under review, the department obtained 76 calls to assist in lifting drivers and passengers trapped in ruined vehicles as opposed to 92 calls obtained in the preceding year. A survey of drivers carried out in the UK reveals that a significant portion believe their spouse to be their most annoying passenger. This could pose a serious risk too since annoying passengers can provide a major distraction to drivers. Official data shows that there were 3,092 road crashes, causing 3,216 injuries and 340 deaths in the period between the 29th December 2015 and the 3rd January 2016. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has issued a draft request for proposals (RFP) for the US$2.1 billion Interstate 66 tolled expansion project. Work under a 40-50-year public-private partnership is expected to include construction of 46km of lanes.
