World’s largest hammer makes breakthrough at bauma

HammerHead Trenchless Equipment unveiled the world’s largest pneumatic pipe ramming hammer at bauma. The 865mm hammer can install casings 1.22m to 4.57m in diameter in drainage culvert and wash-over applications and can be used for pipe assist or pipe extraction, guided pilot bore ramming, and horizontal directional drilling assist. Volvo introduces trio of short-swing excavators

Volvo’s launches at bauma included three new excavators with a short swing radius. The ECR25D, ECR58D and ECR88D are designed to be in their element in small, enclosed areas or for working within a single highway lane. Mantovanibenne shows redesigned shear

Mantovanibenne has increased the cylinder size on its latest Eagle II range of shears and redesigned the tip with a replaceable blade that pierces the material before searing back towards the throat while the one jaw is scalloped to release cut material. On display at bauma was the SH550 Eagle II, which fits carriers in the 50-65tonne range (39-45tonne if boom-mounted) and has a maximum opening of 760mm. The range goes up to the SH2000R, which suits machines upwards of 100tonnes with a 1.2m maximum opening
Volvo adds new buckets and breakers

Volvo’s latest machines have been joined at bauma by a clutch of new attachments, including excavator buckets and a hydraulic breaker range. The range of tailored buckets and hydraulic breakers is designed to match the technical and performance characteristics of Volvo machines. Introductions include general-purpose and heavy-duty buckets for large excavators and a new line of hydraulic breakers for compact excavators.

New rammers from Atlas Copco

The new Atlas Copco rammers in the 50kg and 60kg weight class have been completely redesigned for easier handling, more uptime and longer service life. The LT5005 and LT6005 are powered by Honda engines and designed for compaction work in confined areas. One of the major changes is the slimmer design that facilitates handling close to walls, posts or in narrow trenches.
Hidromek adds premium backhoe to range

Hidromek is displaying a prototype premium backhoe called the Maestro Supra that is to run alongside the existing models. The premium version will have piston pump and flow sharing hydraulics, which includes a regeneration system to capture and re-use energy when the boom is lowered.
Manitou’s king of skid steers proves popular with US road contractors

A Tier 4 Final-compliant tracked loader has been unveiled by JCB at bauma 2013. Bobcat previews 8.5tonne midi excavator

Bobcat, a division of Doosan, is showing a prototype of the E85 midi excavator, an 8.5tonne machine powered by a Yanmar 44.3kW Stage IIIB engine. The machine meets the emissions standard through the use of exhaust gas recirculation and a diesel particulate filter (DPF). The reduced tailswing excavator has 4% more power than the previous E80 model, yet is said to offer a 7% improvement in fuel economy. Bucket digging force is also up 7%, and 6,600kg.
