From German firm Ruthmann comes the new Steiger T 7XX unit, which broadens its height performance access equipment series. Featuring sturdy construction, the unit is said to be both robust and durable with fine-grained steel used to maximise the performance of its telescoping boom. German firm Atlas has developed two new high performance truck loading cranes, the 186.3VB and the 129.3V. The cranes have a lower deadweight than previous models in this class and the 186.3VB model benefits from a centrally placed crane column that provides a large range of movement as well as high stability to both sides. Liebherr will show a modular design flat-top tower crane in the 150EC-B at this year’s Bauma. The 150EC-B is available in FR.tronic, with traditional contractor controls, or Litronic version with programmable logic controls. The flat-top crane can be had in 6 tonne and 8 tonne versions, with a maximum hook height of 63m and maximum working radius of 60m. Lift capacity at full radius is 1,700kg.

Liebherr has developed a hybrid drive system for its HS8300HD heavy duty cycle crawler crane. The 350 tonne machine generates electrical power from its hydraulic free-fall winches, which offer up to 50 tonnes of line pull. Under this Pactronic system surplus energy is stored in a hydraulic accumulator and regenerated to assist the engine, reducing fuel consumption. This reuse of energy also cuts emissions from the machine.

New compact loaders from Manitou have been dubbed 'the beast' and 'the king'. The V400 Gehl and 4000V Mustang models are billed as the strongest compact loaders in the world. The compact loaders are aimed at a broad range of uses including construction, local authorities and highways. They have a nominal capacity of 1.8tonnes, a lifting height of 3.65m and a breakout force of 4,150tonnes. The net power is 99hp at 2,200rpm and the maximum torque is 442Nm at 1,300rpm.

With a standard bucket capacity of 0.32m³ and a width of 1.25m, Atlas Weyhausen’s new AR 30 wheeled loader has been designed for tasks where the workspace is limited, such as road maintenance and restricted construction sites.

HammerHead Trenchless Equipment unveiled the world’s largest pneumatic pipe ramming hammer at bauma. The 865mm hammer can install casings 1.22m to 4.57m in diameter in drainage culvert and wash-over applications and can be used for pipe assist or pipe extraction, guided pilot bore ramming, and horizontal directional drilling assist. The ECR25D, ECR58D and ECR88D are designed to be in their element in small, enclosed areas or for working within a single highway lane. They offer digging performance, breakout and tear-out forces and lifting capabilities that rival their larger counterparts, said Volvo. Mantovanibenne has increased the cylinder size on its latest Eagle II range of shears and redesigned the tip with a replaceable blade that pierces the material before searing back towards the throat while the one jaw is scalloped to release cut material. On display at bauma was the SH550 Eagle II, which fits carriers in the 50-65tonne range (39-45tonne if boom-mounted) and has a maximum opening of 760mm. Volvo’s latest machines have been joined at bauma by a clutch of new attachments, including excavator buckets and a hydraulic breaker range. The range of tailored buckets and hydraulic breakers is designed to match the technical and performance characteristics of Volvo machines. Introductions include general-purpose and heavy-duty buckets for large excavators and a new line of hydraulic breakers for compact excavators.
