The work on the construction of the next stretch of the A100 motorway in Berlin, Germany, is about to start. The project is expected to cost €473 million (US$616.72mn) and be completed by 2020.
Construction of the first public-private (PPP) funded highway in Denmark will see a new road in the south of the country near the German border. The Kliplev Motorway Group (KMG) is one half of Denmark's first ever PPP with the government, after winning the tender to build the highway. KMG is financing the whole project and the deal includes construction and ongoing maintenance when it is complete. Austrian contractor Strabag has won a stake in a design and build road contract in Poland. The project is worth a total of €133 million and involves building a section of highway carrying three lanes in either direction. The firm will work on the project to build another stretch of the A1 highway in Poland. The 17km long Section C begins at the Kamieńsk junction and ends at Radomsko, where the construction of a motorway interchange forms part of the order.
Work is now underway on a series of projects in Algeria, including the East West Highway and a key highway bypass. The 67km Khémis Miliana-Berrouaghia bypass is expected to cost around US$836 million, with work due for completion at the end of 2016. The project is being handled by an Algerian/Italian team.
Construction of the Russian stretch of the highway connecting Europe with China should be complete by 2018. This section of the project is costing close to US$22.6 billion. The international transit corridor from Europe to Western China is of key economic significance.
