US $1.2bn Zhoukou-Zhengzhou, China highway construction begins

Work has begun on constructing a US $ 1.2 billion 144km highway between Zhengzhou and Zhoukou in China. The highway has a designed speed of 120km/hour and a width of 28m.
A series of large highway projects have been awarded to major construction firms in China, following agreements with the authorities in Shaanxi. New highways will be constructed by China Gezhouba Group Corp (CGGC) to link Tingchang with Huang Long and Ningshaan with Shiquan.
The construction of the 14.4km D1 motorway stretch between Budimir - Bidovce near Kosice in eastern Slovakia could begin in 2014 or 2015. Building works for the Budimir-Bidovce D1 route should take three years, followed by the construction of another stretch of the D1 from Bidovce up to the Ukrainian border. The latter works are estimated for completion sometime after 2020. A new highway link is planned to be built in China’s Ma'anshan city. The 19km link will improve traffic flow between the centre of the city and the Bowang District. Costing US$147 million, the new link will feature dual lanes for traffic in either direction.
