US $1.2bn Zhoukou-Zhengzhou, China highway construction begins

Work has begun on constructing a US $ 1.2 billion 144km highway between Zhengzhou and Zhoukou in China. The highway has a designed speed of 120km/hour and a width of 28m.
Work will start on the 120km Sibiu-Pitesti section of Romania’s A1 Freeway in 2017, Romanian media report.
Around €1.6 billion will be spent on the route that will run through 20km of mountains.
In February, the National Highway and Roads Company, CNADNR, selected the Milan-based Spea Ingineria Europea and Tecnic Consulting Engineering of Romania to update the feasibility study on the section, which is part of Romania’s A1 Freeway.

At the end of 2013, the municipality had a network of 2,312 highways with 630km of highways under construction. By the end of 2017, it will have about 3,000km of highways. Romania will open nearly 44km of new roads in 2019, including parts of the A1 Motorway between Deva and Lugoj.
Also to be opened are an 8km stretch between Sebes and Alba Iulia Sud as well as an 18km section of the A3 Motorway between Chetani and Iernut.
CNAIR – the National Road Management Infrastructure Company - estimates that drivers will be able to make use of 925km of high-speed motorways in Romania by the end of 2019, around 120km more than at present.
