Road bypass of Kolin, Czech Republic may open by end of 2012

The road bypass of the Czech city of Kolin is expected to open by the end of 2012. Builders have recently stabilised subgrade in Staralka. The 8km road is worth about US$97.4million (CZK 2bn). The project was delayed by a slow progress in buying land which took four years. The city has been waiting for the bypass for more than 40 years.

    An administrative delay has been holding up the commencement of the new bypass project around Slovakia’s capital, Bratislava. The project is being handled by a joint venture team headed by Spanish contractor Cintra Infraestructuras. The project’s agreement should have been signed on 4th March 2016 by the Slovakian Government. A reason for the delay has not been revealed. The ring-road project is worth some €1.9 billion and will be constructed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.

    A tunnel is to be built between the Belgrade city areas of Savska and Dunavska Padina at a cost between €100-130 million, according to the mayor. Project design was done Ces Cowi which was awarded a tender worth nearly €198,000 by the Directorate for Construction Land. The 9.6m-wide tunnel will be nearly 2km long and lay around 38m below ground. Work, however, is not expected to start until the end of 2018 and take around 30 months.     The provincial British Columbia government in western Canada has chosen a Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Maintain (DBFOM) procurement model for the Vancouver region’s 10-lane bridge replacement for the ageing Massey Tunnel. The US$2.5 billion project includes a bridge and related Highway 99 improvements between Bridgeport Road in the adjacent city of Richmond and Highway 91 in the city of Delta. The 60-year-old tunnel now carries its limit of 80,000 vehicles a day and is often congested during rush hours.
