Progress on Balkan motorway

The Bosnia and Herzegovina Government says 60% of works have been completed on the Corridor V-c motorway between Drivusa and Kakanj. The €43.20million (US$56.28million) project, agreed in April 2010 between the Government's roads directorate and joint venture firm Viadukt d.d-Hering, will see the motorway created from three sub-roads between Drivusa-Gorica, Gorica-Biljesevo and Biljesevo-Kakanj.

    The Spanish government has calculated the cost of rescuing Spain's nine bankrupt motorways at €1.8 billion. This is about 10% less than previously estimated, according to a report in the Spanish financial newspaper Expansión. The government has been trying for the past three years to facilitate a deal with banks to get the motorways out of debt and so to not add to the state’s own debt. Many of the nine projects were built prior to the financial crisis and traffic volumes were optimistically high.

  • Romania speeds up motorway work, including A1 TENT route

    Romania’s transport ministry has cut red tape to speed up 13 road projects this year. Work was stepped up on around 169km of motorway, including contracts on several projects to complete the A1 motorway. The section between Lugoj and Deva is set for the end of the year. The A1 motorway when finished, will be around 580km and connect the capital Bucharest with the Banat and Crișana regions in the western part of the country.
