Poland’s viaTOLL system expanded

The electronic toll system viaTOLL has been expanded in Poland. On 12 January 12 2013, an extra 140km of A1 motorway and S1 and S8 dual carriageways came under the viaTOLL network, according to the directive of the Polish Council of Ministers. A further 160km expansion of viaTOLL is scheduled for 30 March 2013.

    Plans have been unveiled for a proposed road upgrade project in Scotland. These plans show the preferred route for the upgrade to the A96 between Nairn and Fochabers, towns which lie to the east of Inverness on Scotland’s North East coast. The project is being planned by Transport Scotland and will see the 45km road section being upgraded to dual carriageway status. The work will include building new crossings over the Aberdeen to Inverness rail links, as well as over the Spey, Findhorn and Lossie rivers.

    Several motorways in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro will undergo construction works costing at least US$1.99 billion (BRL 4bn) in 2013 as part of the state's economic growth plan. On 25 April 2013, work began on turning a 70.9km stretch of BR-101 Norte into a dual carriageway, creating around 400 direct jobs.
