PNG plans infrastructure upgrades

The authorities in Papua New Guinea (PNG) will be able to boost transport infrastructure following the provision of a development assistance grant worth US$371.35 million.

The authorities in Papua New Guinea (PNG) will be able to boost transport infrastructure following the provision of a development assistance grant worth US$371.35 million. This has been provided by the government of Australia and will be used to supporting PNG's National Transport Development Plan and National Transport Strategy 2010-2030. Much of the grant will be put into upgrading key road links as well as airports.

The Works Ministry has set a budget of nearly US$1.3 billion for 20 transport infrastructure projects during 2019.     A road widening project worth US$134.3 million is now going ahead in Ecuador. The road connecting Aloag with Santo Domingo is being improved along a 100km stretch, widening the route so that it will feature two lanes in either direction instead of the single lane in either direction at present. This will boost the transport connection between Pichincha Province and Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas Province. The contract was originally awarded in 2015 but stalled in 2017 following a disagreement over tolling.
