New network development for Azerbaijan

Major road development is underway in Azerbaijan at present, with network expansion needed to help capitalise on the country’s strong extraction industry. The country’s Ministry of Transport has said that 225km of roads have been built in the first half of 2012. This construction work has required investments of close to US$901 million.

Major road development is underway in Azerbaijan at present, with network expansion needed to help capitalise on the country’s strong extraction industry. The country’s Ministry of Transport has said that 225km of roads have been built in the first half of 2012. This construction work has required investments of close to US$901 million. Further investment is planned during the second half of 2012 as the Ministry of Transport continues to develop the road network and boost connectivity for transport and to the country’s major resource projects.

    Azerbaijan managed to rebuild and maintain 1,335km of its road network during 2017. Around 314km of key national road links were improved, along with 889km of local roads. In the capital, Baku, 133km of roads were built or improved. The programme also included the construction of 15 bridges as well as repairs works to a further nine. For 2018 Azerbaijan intends to make improvements to 2,000km of existing road links.

  • Ethiopia plans massive road investment

    The Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) has plans to expand the country’s road network. In all 42 road construction projects will be completed during the present financial year while a further 45 new road projects will be started. The new roads will extend for a total of 20,700km. Key roads being built will connect Woliso and Ambo, Goro and Lebu and Awash and Debreberhan via Dulecha and Ankober. The programme of works is expected to cost US$1.53 billion.
