The German province of Baden- Württemberg has issued a list of 20 ready to be built federal trunk road projects worth a combined US$1.01billion (€800mn).The first five could be started in 2014 and the next five in 2015 or 2016.

A consortium of Brazil's Mendes Junior and Spain's Isolux Corsán could lose its US$208 million contract to build part of the northern section of the Mario Covas beltway around the Brazilian city of São Paulo.
The consortium, led by Mendes Junior, is falling behind schedule because of cash flow problems, according to São Paulo state highway company Dersa. The deal was signed in January 2013, local paper Folha de São Paulo reported.
More than 40 so-called ‘zombie’ road projects previously defeated for environmental reasons or abandoned by previous governments are reported to have been resuscitated. While 44 schemes are planned or are under way, a further 150 projects have been identified by the Campaign for Better Transport (CBT). The UK is engaged in the largest road construction programme in 25 years. The CBT worked out that the 190 projects it is aware of would cost at least US $ 32.01 billion (£20bn). Ethiopia is targeting a major investment in transport infrastructure as a means to boost its economy in the long term. The country's government has plans for a road building programme worth an impressive US$8.97 billion. The aim of the programme will be to build 82,500km of roads over a five year period. This will extend Ethiopia's road network from 49,000km at present to a total of 136,000km.
